History
The Rathfarnham 5k Run has being run around the streets of Ratharnham and Terenure on the last Sunday in September every year from 1998. It was cancelled in 2021 and 2021 due to the Covid pandemic and was back again in 2022, 2023 and 2024. It is a very popular 5k and because it takes place on a very fast course, it is favoured by runners from all over the country in order to set a personal best time.
It starts on Springfield Avenue, Rathfarnham near the Tesco store in Rathfarnham Shopping Centre. It follows a downhill route along Dodder Park Road for 1.1km and then takes a left turn up Rathfarnham Road to Terenure Cross which is slightly uphill. The course continues along Rathfarnham Road to Terenure Village, and then takes a left turn at Terenure Cross and left again after Cripps shop onto Templeogue Road. The course is now heads uphill along Templeogue Road, past Bushy Park and Terenure College (Registration Centre). The course levels off after Bushy Park and then takes a left turn at the traffic lights with Templeville Road. You are then back onto Springfield Avenue, where you started and then you have a 1.3km downhill run to the finish near Rathfarnham Bridge.
